Those declared dead live longer

This sentence seems to have been invented for email marketing. Countless times, email has been declared dead by analysts and trend researchers who saw alternatives such as mobile messenger services, social networks, video chats, etc. as the way forward. There is no doubt that all these technologies have drastically changed the way we communicate with each other online. However, this does not mean that good old email no longer has a place. No other channel allows you to reach your existing and potential customers in a more targeted and personal way than email.

In its latest analysis, US market research company Forrester Research has identified three surprising trends in email usage:

1. Young users stick with email: Although you might think that young people today prefer to use the latest social networks, more 12- to 17-year-olds use email than Facebook or Snapchat. In 2017, 82% of this age group used email at least once a month.

2. Email usage is increasing: 96% of all internet users over the age of 12 use email. Here, we can confidently speak of saturation. However, usage via smartphones is increasing and, at 61%, still has potential for growth. Here, it will be crucial to be prepared for the mobility of users.

3. Your customers want to receive emails from you: An increasing number of consumers stated that they had signed up for a company newsletter. At the same time, however, they were dissatisfied with the content of these emails. For you as a company, this clearly means that your customers want to hear from you. But they are increasingly demanding personalized, contextual, and relevant emails.
